01019474 About BT/Wifi NV.bin in persist partition

If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.

Subject

About BT/Wifi NV.bin in persist partition

Description

Dear Qualcomm support team,

We find BT and Wifi use Qualcomm’s default setting to access MAC and firmware in .bin file, which is located in persist partition.
So we want to know if there's any way to backup/restore the bin file to PC, such as we backup/restore NV item via QPST.

Besides, we think that store the MAC and firmware in persist partition is not suitable.
In previous projects, we use NV item to store MAC and firmware setting, it would not be lost after re-download images.
But if we store it in persist partition, it might be cleared after re-download images.
Is there any way to protect the peresist partition keeping the MAC and firmware setting?
Can we set this partition to be un-rewritable?

Thank you.

I am BT guy and I only know BT part.

For bt_nv.bin, there is no way to back-up like previous .qcn file.
We have the consumption that "persist" partition will not be flashed by user after shipping.

Thank you,

Richard

Dear Richard,

Do you mean there's no way bo backup .bt_vn.bin and WCNSS_wlan_NV.bin to PC, or restore them to device?
And there is no machnism to protect the persist.img, right?
If someone flashes this partition, there is no way to get the bd addr and wifi calibration data to be recovered?

Please help to confirm whether my understanding is correct. Thank you.

No. persist/bt_nv.bin is our default bd address stored file.

It won't be flahsed if you don't flash persist.img.

Thank you,

Richard

Dear Wei-Ting,

There's no bug in current code base, we just want to know about the backup/restore features and how to enhance it to be more reliable.
So I don't understand what logs I shouldprovide to you, would you please describe the log you need in detail?

Thank you.

James Chiu

We will check internally and response to you later. May I know if there is any additional log and attachment for this case?
